As part of the English Unit of Work on Performing Poetry, Year 3 and 4 children in Skylarks Class have written their own rap poems. They all worked collaboratively in small groups, carefully choosing the words that rhyme and create rhythms too. Read aloud and enjoy!
The Barking Pup
Parker was in the kitchen eating his food,
I stroked him on his head- not sure if I should.
Then he jumped up and started to bark,
I think he wanted to go to the park.
He’s the best barking pup this kid’s ever seen
He’s brown, he’s soft and he thinks he’s clean!

Cheetah was chilling under the sand,
Octopus was thinking of joining a band.
Tiger was creeping through the long grass,
When a dangerous crocodile came wandering past!
They all met up by a great big tree
The chameleon said, ‘What about me?’

My brother wanted a mega game,
But the game he wanted was mad, insane!
My mother said, ‘I’m not buying that!’
So he went crazy and lay on the mat.
I want that game and I want it now!
I’ll get that game and I don’t care how!

Kitten likes to play, Kitten likes to play
Kitten likes to play but not all day!
Kitten likes to sleep, Kitten likes to sleep,
Kitten likes to sleep but the owners peep!
Kitten wants a fish, Kitten wants a fish,
Kitten wants a fish but there’s none in the dish!
Kitten jumps in the pool, Kitten jumps in the pool,
Kitten jumps in the pool but he’s a fool!
Kitten wants chopsticks, Kitten wants chopsticks,
Kitten wants chopsticks so he gets first picks!
Kitten wants to play, Kitten wants to play
Kitten wants to play the ‘X Box’ way!
