This is a “call to arms” for all the Cyclists in the Parish!!
The annual Ride + Stride event takes place this year on Saturday 9th September.
What is Ride + Stride?? Well - it is rather more than a fundraising event - it encourages both Parishioners and those from outside the Parish to ride (horse or cycle or walk - with bicycling being by far the most popular!!!) covering as many of the local churches as you wish. Our “circuit” includes 10 churches - 2 in Binfield, 1 in Hurst, 3 in Twyford and 1 each in Ruscombe, White Waltham, Shottesbrooke and our own in Waltham St Lawrence. You can spend as long as you want in each church - where you can look around and enjoy a drink and a biscuit if you’re lucky!! Unless you’ve done it before, you’ll be surprised at the beauty of some of our churches and of their historical interest.
Sponsorship forms are available from myself - and we are hoping that you will arrange for families and/or friends to contribute a little money in support of your efforts - they can sponsor you for a set amount - or give you a sum per church (as a sort of challenge!!). The monies raise are split equally between our church and the Berkshire Churches Trust. The latter often supports major church related projects in Berkshire.
The Ride + Stride is carried out between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm just to suit yourselves!!
So please dust down your bikes - family biking outings seem to be getting less frequentL!! - phone me for a form well in advance so you have sufficient time to get sponsorship.
Last year, we had a group of 5 cyclists led by Stuart Scott and included Charles Mason, our Vicar .... and a small group enthusiastic youngsters (Junior choir members!!) led by Fiona Penn. In spite of the rain everyone seemed to have a lot of fun .... as well as raising £475 half of which goes directly to our church. Hopefully our Parish with a history of rising to minor challenges will muster up a few more adventurous teams this year .... and raise funds for our beautiful church which gives such joy to all ages in the Parish - but especially to the Junior Choir and other young children too who enjoy 3Gs (weekly) and Messy Church (monthly) and the weekly church services - particularly the monthly All Age Service.
